This blog is mostly about images. A photo captures a moment in time and lets us slow down long enough to see the rich texture of the life all around us. It's mostly for my own amusement, but if you stumbled here somehow, please enjoy.

Where is the House That You Build?

"Thus saith the LORD, The heaven is my throne, and the earth is my footstool: where is the house that ye build unto me? and where is the place of my rest? For all those things hath mine hand made, and all those things have been, saith the LORD: but to this man will I look, even to him that is poor and of a contrite spirit, and trembleth at my word." Isaiah 66:1-2

Sitting on the square in Magdalena de Kino, Mexico last Tuesday night, one could see the twilight fading and the light of a distant planet shining as a backdrop for this church.  It made me think of this scripture. Our buildings can't contain Him, the Creator of all. He looks to the humble.

Wondering

During our time in Magdalena, Mexico last week we had a chance to ride the church bus through town while it picked up people for Sunday services.  As we stopped for a family, I caught sight of this little girl.  Don't you wonder what she's thinking?  I fancy maybe it was something like, "Maybe I can go to church someday, do you think?"

How many around us are peering around the corner, wondering if God can be trusted...if this church thing is real...if maybe, just maybe, it's for me?

No Moss on Me?

"...Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it; that he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word." (Eph. 5:25-26)

Notice how the rock in the middle is free of moss?  It doesn't always feel good to have that constant pounding, scrubbing, purging...but the Lord is working to present us, the church, to Himself without spot or wrinkle.

Bell Tower

Quiz question: any idea about where this image was shot?  You can answer as specifically (exact spot) or generally (region of the country) as you wish...and yes, it's a trick question!  :)

Noise of Many Waters

The LORD on high is mightier than the noise of many waters (Ps. 93:4)

Take No Thought for Tomorrow

"Even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these...take therefore no thought for the morrow..." (Matt. 6)

I haven't heard any good reason that flowers are beautiful other than God is infinitely creative and shows His glory in creation.

In the Garden

I come to the garden alone
While the dew is still on the roses
And the voice I hear falling on my ear
The Son of God discloses.

And He walks with me, and He talks with me,
And He tells me I am His own;
And the joy we share as we tarry there,
None other has ever known.

("In the Garden")

Yes, I know those are Asiatic Lilies, not roses.  But they were rain-kissed on that Saturday morning as I sat on the porch for some quiet time, and it reminded me of this sweet old hymn.

Whose Canopy Space

O tell of His might, O sing of His grace,
Whose robe is the light, Whose canopy space,
("O Worship the King")

There's a reason they call them the Green Mountains!
