This blog is mostly about images. A photo captures a moment in time and lets us slow down long enough to see the rich texture of the life all around us. It's mostly for my own amusement, but if you stumbled here somehow, please enjoy.

Think Spring!

For, lo, the winter is past, the rain is over and gone; The flowers appear on the earth; the time of the singing of birds is come, and the voice of the turtle is heard in our land; (Song 2:11-12)

Well, we can hope, can't we?  It was 60 degrees last Friday and today we have a winter storm advisory promising 3-7" of snow.  Nevertheless, winter's back is broken and spring is inevitable. We're already enjoying 11 hours of daylight each day and gaining more rapidly as the vernal equinox approaches!

He Sends His Love

On the wings of a snow-white dove,
He sends His pure sweet love,
A sign from above,
On the wings of a dove.

When troubles surround us,
When evils come;
The body grows weak
The spirit grows numb;
When these things beset us,
He doesn't forget us;
He sends down His love,
On the wings of a dove.

Wings of a Dove, song/lyrics by Robert B. Ferguson

(Yes, I know that's a seagull!)

Sydney

I've never been to Sydney, though I'd love to go.  And I've never asked this young lady or her parents how she got her name.  She's "Syd" to us and a part of our family having watched her grow up and then having the blessing of her living with us last summer.

I've always liked this snapshot, caught at a relaxed moment rather by chance than by artfulness.

Snow, Be Thou on the Earth

"God thundereth marvellously with his voice; great things doeth he, which we cannot comprehend. For he saith to the snow, Be thou on the earth; likewise to the small rain, and to the great rain of his strength."
(Job 37:5-6.)

I didn't get to hear the thundersnow the other night when our big blizzard hit, but we certainly felt the impact of God commanding the snow to be on the earth.  Always amazed how our little world stops at the voice of God through His creation.

Welcome Winter

Winter is "welcome" when we can peer at it through the windows from the warmth of our homes.  Our recent snow day afforded that opportunity and the chance to reflect on the blessing of shelter, family, and the might of God.  Coming on the heels of Dad Herrmann's passing and Nelson's new walk of faith, we found ourselves with much to reflect upon and a welling joy and thankfulness for God's goodness and mercy.

Grandpa

"Precious in the sight of the LORD is the death of his saints." (Ps. 116:15)

But we sure miss him...
