This blog is mostly about images. A photo captures a moment in time and lets us slow down long enough to see the rich texture of the life all around us. It's mostly for my own amusement, but if you stumbled here somehow, please enjoy.

Crescent Moon

When I consider thy heavens, the work of thy fingers, the moon and the stars, which thou hast ordained; What is man, that thou art mindful of him? and the son of man, that thou visitest him? (Ps. 8:3&4)

Graduation

I'll try to spare all the sentimental reflecting on how hard it is to believe our youngest is done with grade school.  And I won't spend any time commenting on how old that might make us feel.  But I will say that Nelson is a very special young man who makes us very proud...we love you, son!

Mulch

The sleep of a laboring man is sweet (Eccl. 5:12).

It doesn't look like anyone was laboring at this point but trust me when I say that it took some labor to move 20 yards of mulch from the pile to the landscape beds.

From the Master's Hand

Our nieces and nephew just welcomed "Riley" into the family.  I love this tender moment between him and one of his new masters.

Fuchsia

Cindy procured some wonderful hanging baskets for our front porch this year, don't you agree?

I couldn't decide whether I preferred the flowers or the flag in focus. Cindy liked the former so it gets top billing.  But here's the other way round for comparison.  Which do you like better?

New Buffalo

Another selection from the Nikon Coolpix collection.  I guess I just love the way the idyllic harbor matches the peaceful sky.  And it evokes wonderful memories from a little outing Cindy and I had there too!

Lilacs

Lilacs.  I think they are beautiful. Both my wife and my mother love them.  They make my eyes water and wish I could sneeze.  But it's worth it for the beauty and the happiness of those around me who enjoy them so much!

Backyards

There's so much texture in a city.  It's a grave mistake to look and see only "huddled masses yearning to breathe free" and extend unknowing pity at their lot.  We humans can carve from the tiniest block a sense of place and belonging.  I love the way these "back yards' convey a sense of individual style and preference.

Streetscape

My thoughts go to the individuality we all seek to have, especially in the "front" we show to the street level.  But just a little higher and the less attractive rooftop starts to show. Imagine how it looks from God's perspective -- seeing all the way into our hearts!  Yet He loves with perfect love.

Mom & Molly

Honor thy father and thy mother: that thy days may be long upon the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee. (Exod. 20:12)

So yes, Mother's Day is a good thing.  A biblical thing. A God honoring thing.

It was fun to give Mom her own American Girl doll, Molly, today.  Molly is from her generation but I won't tell the year!

I love you, Mom!

Back Off!

If you ever thought getting between a mama and her brood was a good idea, this look should convince you otherwise!

Sunset

God paints the clouds in the evening sky,
To show me the way to the palace on high,
And stars mark the pathway lest my feet should roam
It's sunset and I'm going home.

Silent Rails

If I didn't like airplanes so much, my favorite subject would be trains.  There's something about the endless rails that carry my imagination off to a distant and unknown place. Hop aboard and dream a little today!

Morning Glory

"And yet I say unto you, That even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these." (Matt. 6:29)

Yes, I realize it's a Flowering Crab. It's just that the glory was captured in the morning. :)
