This blog is mostly about images. A photo captures a moment in time and lets us slow down long enough to see the rich texture of the life all around us. It's mostly for my own amusement, but if you stumbled here somehow, please enjoy.

Backyard Sunset

"He answered and said unto them, When it is evening, ye say, It will be fair weather: for the sky is red."  (Matt. 16:2).  Or as my Grammy Feller used to say, "Red at night, sailor's delight; red at morning, sailor take warning."  Straight out of scripture.  I like the night version.

Warning: I'm a hopeless sunset addict.  And second favorite is sunrise.  How awesome that God graces us with such beauty to start and end the day!

Goodnight Moon

Lunatic quite literally means one who is driven crazy by the moon.  I spent more time than I'd care to admit trying to get a good shot of the "biggest, brightest full moon of the year" tonight.  I'm still looking for the right combination of aperture and shutter speed but I love the detail on this, especially the craters near the top of the shot.

Think Spring!

"For, lo, the winter is past, the rain is over and gone; The flowers appear on the earth; the time of the singing of birds is come, and the voice of the turtle is heard in our land;" (Song 2:11-12).  Well, we can look with hopeful anticipation, right?   I'm looking forward to this view on lazy Saturday mornings on our front porch!

Confession: I took this last summer with the D300 from work.  Using that camera for a day was key to pushing me over the digital SLR edge.  As one of the last guys in the world shooting slide film (I can explain if anyone cares to listen), I finally found the right combination of quality, speed and price I was looking for in the Nikon D90.

Evening Light

It took three tries to get the light where I wanted it on this shot of a familiar Lake Geneva landmark.  I marvel at the human eye's ability to "set the exposure" perfectly on a seemingly instantaneous basis with a huge range of light levels. "Oh Lord my God, when I in awesome wonder..."

Water Walker

"And when Peter was come down out of the ship, he walked on the water, to go to Jesus." (Matt. 14:29)

It would sure be easier to walk on water if we had wings. But we walk by faith. Not sight. Not wings. No hidden stepping stones.  On the water. Simply trust Him. For now. Until we fly away. Some glad morning!

Reflected Glory

“When I consider thy heavens, the work of thy fingers, the moon and the stars, which thou hast ordained; What is man, that thou art mindful of him? and the son of man, that thou visitest him?” (Ps. 8:3&4)

A full moon captivates me.  This is my first attempt to capture it with a long lens (300mm) and digital camera (Nikon D90).   I look forward to the next opportunity to improve upon this but still marvel at the detail of this celestial body which reflects the sun’s light as if in humble praise.

Lake Geneva Ice

Snapped this on a frigid walk along Lake Geneva, Wisconsin right after Christmas last year. The ice forms slowly, yet incessantly. A friend pointed out the fun in pondering what's beyond the white walkways...
